From 1982 to today - the story of Scanex

A lot has changed since Scanex was founded in 1982. New technologies have emerged, the design process has become digital, and the possibilities for designing and building exhibition stands are very different today.

Scanex has been part of that development throughout.

Founded in 1982, we have worked with exhibition stands and physical spaces for companies in Denmark and abroad ever since. This makes Scanex one of the more established companies in the Danish exhibition industry, with an uninterrupted history spanning more than four decades.

What began as a traditional craftsmanship-based business has developed into an international exhibition company, where consultancy, stand design, project management, in-house production and logistics are closely connected.

The development did not happen overnight. It has taken place gradually, alongside new technologies, new possibilities and the changing needs of our clients.

New tools - the same focus on the bigger picture

Craftsmanship has been part of Scanex from the beginning – and it still is.

The tools, technology and possibilities have changed considerably since 1982, and today many different disciplines come together when creating an exhibition stand.

A project will often begin long before the first elements reach the workshop. We need to understand the company and its brand, consider visitors, functionality and flow, develop the stand design and establish budgets and timelines. At the same time, there is coordination with organisers, exhibition venues and suppliers.

Today, Scanex works as a Full Circle Exhibition Partner, bringing the different disciplines together around the complete project.

This means we can follow an exhibition project from the initial idea and design through project management, production and logistics to installation and dismantling.

Experience gained from many years of exhibition projects remains an important part of how we work. This includes understanding that an exhibition stand has to work both visually and practically – and that something which appears simple on the exhibition floor can require a great deal of planning behind the scenes.

In-house joinery production in Galten, Denmark

Our own joinery workshop remains an important part of the business.

Our head office, production facilities and warehouse are located together at Ursusvej in Galten, Denmark. Here, we produce bespoke elements for exhibition stands as well as showrooms, shop-in-shops and corporate interiors.

Over the years, traditional craftsmanship has been complemented by new technology. CNC machinery is now an integral part of our production and allows us to manufacture bespoke elements with a high degree of precision.

Having production in-house also provides flexibility. Drawings can be adapted digitally, and custom-built elements can be produced at our own facilities whenever a project requires them.

Technology has changed the way we produce. But it has not replaced craftsmanship.

The two work side by side.

Building exhibition stands around the world

From our base in Denmark, Scanex has gradually become increasingly international.

Today, we build exhibition stands throughout Denmark and the rest of Europe, as well as in overseas markets including the USA, Canada and Asia.

International exhibition stand construction requires more than simply being able to produce and install a stand. Transport, local regulations, deadlines, technical orders and the different working procedures at exhibition venues around the world all need to be managed.

At our warehouse in Galten, clients' stand elements can also be stored between exhibitions. From here, they are prepared, packed and transported to the next event.

An exhibition stand therefore does not have to be a project that begins and ends with a single exhibition. Individual elements – or complete stand concepts – can be reused and adapted to follow the client to new exhibitions and new markets.

Experience isn't found in machines alone

Technology plays a much greater role in exhibition stand construction today, but it remains an industry where people and experience make a significant difference.

At Scanex, several disciplines come together around each project.

Our designers translate a company's identity, requirements and ideas into a physical environment. Our project managers coordinate timelines, budgets, logistics, technical orders and communication with exhibition venues and partners. And our stand builders make sure the drawings and plans work in practice when it is time to build the stand.

It is the interaction between these different skills that brings the project together – from the first idea to the finished exhibition stand.

From exhibition halls to showrooms

The expertise we have developed through exhibition stand design and construction is now also used for permanent interior solutions.

Scanex designs and produces showrooms, shop-in-shops and interior solutions for corporate premises.

What these projects have in common is the process of translating a company's brand and practical requirements into a physical environment – and the ability to follow the project from the initial idea and drawings through production to the finished solution.

Exhibition stand construction remains a central part of Scanex. But decades of experience creating temporary spaces have also given us skills that can be applied when the solution needs to remain in place for much longer.

A generational transition with continuity

The latest major milestone in the Scanex story came on 1 January 2026.

Kim Bräuner and Rasmus Voxen Jensen joined the ownership team alongside owner, founder and CEO Kaare Egelund Schmidt.

At the time of the transition, Kim Bräuner had been with Scanex for 28 years, while Rasmus Voxen Jensen had been part of the company for 18 years. Together with Kaare Egelund Schmidt, the ownership team therefore represents more than 70 years of experience with Scanex and the exhibition industry.

The generational transition represents both change and continuity.

Much of the knowledge, relationships and experience built up within the company over the years will continue, while there is also room for new ideas and new opportunities.

More than 40 years of experience - and still evolving

A lot looks different today compared with when Scanex was founded in 1982.

The drawing board has become digital and CNC technology has become part of our production. Today, Scanex works on projects across national borders, bringing together a wide range of disciplines around each individual assignment.

But some things remain familiar.

We still need to understand the client's business. We still need to think both creatively and practically. The details still need to be managed.

And ultimately, someone still needs to be able to build what has been designed.

That has been part of Scanex since 1982.

And it still is.
